At the beginning of the Spring Festival in 2022, five large size high-efficiency chillers customized by Ebara for the energy station of The Hong Kong University of science and Technology (Guangzhou) have arrived one after another. The design concept of Ebara chiller with high efficiency and stability coincides with the construction concept of HKUST (Guangzhou) green low-carbon campus. The chilled water and ice storage double working condition centrifugal chillers and high-efficiency absorption chillers help HKUST (Guangzhou) build a world-class "net zero emission" demonstration campus.

The Hong Kong University of science and Technology (HKUST) is a top internationally renowned research university in Asia. In January 2022, it was selected as the third most international university in the world in the university ranking published by the British "Times Higher Education". Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is a scientific research institution which is prepared and established by the cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong. It is committed to cultivating and transporting innovative talents with international vision, promoting scientific and technological innovation and industrial upgrading in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The planned building area of HKUST (Guangzhou) is one million square meters, which is divided into two phases. The first phase has a building area of 550,000 square meters, mainly including experimental teaching buildings, libraries, teachers' and students' apartments. In response to the national "double carbon" policy and improve the comprehensive energy utilization rate as well as create a green low-carbon campus, Ebara make full use of energy efficient cascade utilization technology, and create a comprehensive energy service system including centralized cooling and heating, photovoltaic power generation, etc.

Ebara chilled water and ice storage double working condition centrifugal chillers and steam type lithium bromide absorption chillers set up a combined cooling and heating platform of "electric refrigeration + absorption refrigeration + chilled water storage + condensate heat recovery" for the energy station, with a total cooling load of 11,000 RT and a total heating load of 6.4 MW.

In the summer season, the operation mode shall be adjusted according to the cooling load. The cold storage source of chilled water by centrifugal chillers and the cold source of absorption unit recovering the waste heat of low pressure steam are preferentially used to provide cooling for the whole school. The variable-frequency centrifugal water chiller shall be used as the redundant cold source for the standby cooling capacity of the experimental building with high cold source safety; In the winter season, steam condensate waste heat heating is preferred, and low pressure steam waste heat heating of the power plant is used for the gap heat. The annual sanitary hot water is provided by the steam condensate of the Absorption Chiller and the waste heat exchange of the low-pressure steam of the power plant. This mode can greatly improve the energy utilization rate and effectively reduce the total energy consumption, and realize the green and efficient operation of the energy station.
